What is\u00a0the volume of cooling water required per use for a typical STME autoclave?<\/p>\n

As per the manufacturer, there are two answers:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0If the sterilizer exhaust steam\u00a0is vented to the outdoors then there is\u00a0no\u00a0cooling\u00a0water<\/span>\u00a0except for the excess water remaining in the chamber at the end of the day. This can be no more than 6 quarts of water if it is full at the end of the day. More likely, it’s even less.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

2)\u00a0If the unit cannot be vented\u00a0to the outdoors than they will be using the optional cold water condensing<\/a> unit. This is used to mix the exhausted steam with cold water to then send down the drain.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

When using the condenser<\/a>,\u00a0during a normal 30 minute sterilization cycle<\/span>, you can expect to use anywhere from 15 to 20 gallons of water.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
